Last month we visited the Pak Mong Stream, reached the level of 160m, location 6 of the web page. However, there were no further path reach the range. All area are covered with bushes, 2m height and some of them have hooks. After struggled with those bushes for half hour, we returned to the enterence of the stream.

As the date of that visit in the web page is Sep 1999, I do want to know whether anybody went there recently and could find the exit path.

Please let me know.

Hi James,

The exit should be pretty obvious. You should find some ribbons and ropes hanging around the exit point. I think you have either passed the exit or not yet reached the exit. Although my record of exit is at 160m, there may some deviation between your or my altitude meters owing to weather or calibration. So my question is: have you search up to 180m?

Hi Lawman,
Thanks for the quick reply.

I was with James during that Pak Mong trekking.

We definitely had reached the exit loacation (#6) shown in the web page. The red ribbons were still there, even the distinct inter-twisted vines which appeared on the web photo were there(we printed the web page and brought along with us during the trekking)
When we tried to go the ridge as indicated in the map on web page, we came across very thick bushes, many of which were thorns.
We returned to the stream, went further up (may be 50m higher or so). There were still red ribbons along the way - but we thought the ribbons were indicating another route; probably it would go all the way up the whole stream.
It was almost 5:00pm already so we reluctantly trekked downstream.

We suspected that plants/thorns grew too thick such that the exit path (leading to the ridge) was hidden (or became too difficult, at least to us) already

Anyway, it is a fun stream to trek.
Thanks for sharing this over the net and happy hiking / trekking.

Some red ribbons will be leading all the way up to the source of this stream, i.e. the exit in the point 6 is not the only option. I have once followed all the way up with some local botanist. The difficulty of going all the way up is not great, but unless you are have great interest in the plants, you are not likely to find the travelling in the forest very interesting either.
