Eugene:

I have been to Sheung-Tam stream many times, but the water quality was not that good, and I would not swim in that water.

Personally I think the right branch which flows through Tai Tam Mount is much better, probably due to the un-polluted feeders from Boa Vista (Ye Chu Keng), and it has a beautiful waterfall too.

However, I can see from your photos that the water quality as well as quantity was not that bad, probably you were there shortly after a heavy rain ?

Hi Daniel,

It has been a long time since my visit to Sheung Tam Stream. I couldn't remember whether there was a heavy rain before I went there. But I could remember the stream water was OK for a swim there. And the waterflow was not small at that time.

I visited the right branch as you mentioned. It was great to see that moderate-sized waterfall in Hong Kong Island. I swimmed there. But to my surprise, my body became quite itchy after swimming there. So, don't be fooled by the cleanliness of the stream water. There could be a number of biting bugs even in an apparent clean pool, too.

I am very interested in hiking some of the level one and two hikes and river treks on the site. However, because I am not from Hong Kong I
am not familiar with how to get to some of these starting points? Can you provide me with directions on how to get to the starting point of
Hau Tong Kai Trail, and Sheung Tam Stream trail please?
Thank you.

Dear Jacy,

Do you have a map of the Hong Kong Island at your hand?

Congratulations on your great site! As a new-comer to HK, I was glad to find out that there are such wonderful natural places here.

I would like to go on a short and easy hike (it's starting to get too hot nowadays..) this wekend along the Sheung Tam stream between the Tai
Tam and the Tai Tam Tuk reservoirs. Unfortunately, your site doesn't give details on how to get to the beginning of the trail. Could you help
me out on this since I have no idea of what transportation I could take to get there (for info, I live in Quarry Bay).

So, for your website to become useful to foreigners and new-comers like myself too, I suggest that you include some info on how to get to these beautiful sites (apart from the hiking I mean..).

Thanks a lot for your help, I look forward to your reply!

First you need to have a map of Hong Kong Island. Locate Tai Tam Reservoir and Tai Tam Tuk Reservoir on the map. It is around the centre of Hong Kong
Island.

Take a min bus for Stanley at Chai Wan MTR station.

Get off at the entrance of the Tai Tam Tuk Reservoir along Tai Tam Road. Walking along the Tai Tam Reservoir Road for 45min-1hr (approximately), you will meet the pavilion and then the barbecue site (Beware, it is the barbecue site AFTER the pavilion) as shown on the map of our website. You may hear the sound of flowing water on your left hand side. There is no clear way of entering into the stream. You need to observe the environment and then choose the easiest and safest way. It is not difficult to get into the stream. Mark the route clearly on your map before going there.
